Electronics City - Could Netflix Eventually Eliminate the Blu-ray?

You know someone who has it. You probably use it or uses someone's account for it. You most likely have figured it is amazing for date nights.

Netflix.

Netflix has become one of the most popular brands in the world, first with the system of having DVDs sent in the mail through a monthly subscription service. The DVDs would be sent back through a package sent out with the movie or TV show to the customer, & the user could rent out another movie & the cycle would continue.

Netflix
Netflix is the most popular online movie streaming service
in the world.

Over time, Netflix developed its streaming online service that allows for many TV series & movies to be shown on smart TVs, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 4, Playstation 3, cell phones, tablets, & a variety of other devices. Netflix has slowly been phasing out the DVD rental service in favor of the streaming service, & the results have been strong.

The company has begun to develop their own original series, Orange is the New Black, Hemlock Grove, & House of Cards - all which have received wide praise overall.

Overtime, many people tend to go towards Netflix even over purchasing a series or a movie on DVD & Blu-ray. Most DVDs & Blu-ray discs range from $15 to over $100 for a massive set. On Netflix, unlimited seasons of a show are available for only $9.95 per month, & can add up to 5 users on one single account.

While DVDs & blu-rays still remain the #1 source of revenues for movies & TV series, the question has to be asked of how long will that last with the rise in popularity of instant streaming content? So far in 2013, Netflix reported revenues of over 1.1 billion dollars worldwide, & with so many popular series available on Netflix including Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Family Guy, Parks & Recreation, among thousands of other titles, Netflix continues to gain steam as a viable option for a night in with family & friends as opposed to spending money on DVDs, blu-rays or even going to the movie theaters.

When it comes to the social side of things, Netflix has become the ultimate date night idea, in my humble opinion. Having the option of curling up with a special someone, having some dinner & having a night of someone's favorite show is far more interesting than not being able to chat or stop a movie at the movie theaters, not to mention, movie theaters cost about $40 for a full night including movie, popcorn, drink, etc.

As time goes on, people will go more towards instant gratification in their entertainment, & unless the price of the blu-rays & DVDs come down, the way of the future of entertainment will be streaming media, & Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant Video & others will be at the head of the class.

Thoughts on Xbox One Console

What's up everyone!

Hope you are enjoying your Sunday so far! This post is about my thoughts on the new Xbox One console, due to ship on November 22 across the United States, which you can order at the Electronics City store now. Microsoft has mentioned recently that due to high demand, the system may not ship until December 31, so please keep that in mind when you are putting in an order at Electronics City.

Xbox One
The new Xbox One console will be available on November 22
at Electronics-City.com.

The Xbox One will be the system that is the advancement of the Xbox 360 system. The console consists of the actual Xbox 360 box system along with the Xbox Kinect, which used to only be available separately on the 360 system. Its now standard on the Xbox One.

The Xbox Kinect is a system that allows users to exercise and play games through physical movement in front of the camera.

With the Xbox One itself, Microsoft amped up its version of the next-gen console by making the system basically have a brain of its own when it comes to operations and such.

The system features a new technology called "Living Worlds," which basically means you could be playing a certain game and due to the advanced artificial intelligence in the system, a game will be able to advance worlds so you don't know exactly where the game will pick up at, making it somewhat realistic.

I do love this feature, however, the area that I'm not a fan of right now is that friends can play against your shadow, even when sleeping. The game is supposed to know my gaming habits, but what if my shadow sucks as a gamer, as we all know the computer does in most games, especially sports, but we will have to wait to see if this has a positive or negative impact on the various styles of games available.

A major upgrade for the Xbox One is the implementation of a Blu-ray player. The blu-ray was one of the major reasons that many people did not purchase a 360 over the Playstation 3 in the past. Now, with the system available, it would seem that something that is as small in today's world as a blu-ray player could be one of the big keys in the fight between Microsoft and Sony.

Another cool feature with the Xbox One is the ability to plug in your cable or satellite box to the console. This could be good in the sense of it cuts out the need to switch inputs constantly, but my question would be this........is all of the content that we run through the Xbox One all in HD quality? if it is, this will cut out the need for consumers to pay the cable and satellite companies the extra fee for HD.

In terms of games available at launch, the Xbox One will feature some of the top games of 2013 and most like 2014 including Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Madden NFL 25, NBA 2K14, the return of NBA Live 14, EA Sports UFC, and many others, so there is a good variety of products available to truly utilize all of the features of the Xbox One.

My feeling is that Microsoft will hit a home run with the Xbox One, just as they did with the Xbox 360, not only for all of the great hardware essentials, but the system will still incorporate the Xbox Live system, which has become one of the top ways for people to get their content in terms of on-demand programming, music, Skype, videos and more.

With all of the strong features in the game, I can't see how this won't redefine the video game and entertainment industry. If you are looking to upgrade game systems, this is a must buy this holiday season.
